Our fringing coral reefs are existentially threatened by stresses from many factors, most human imposed. We can significantly reduce one of them right now - the harmful chemicals in most current sunscreens. I have been using mineral sunscreens for over 20 years. They continue to get easier to apply and wear comfortably (along with practices of avoiding.l0am-2pm activities in the sun, and wearing uv protective rashguardsl shirts and a hat). The chemicals in the sunscreens are unhealthy to humans as well as the ocean. Prohibition legislation combined with education/outreach can change public opinion like it did with DDT Our 'jina deserves our active protection and kinder stewardship. Our reefs contribute hugelya to our health, wellbeing and economy. Without our coral reefs, we will lose protection from wave storm surge, lose our fisheries and lose our precious tourists who visit Hawai'i in large part to experience its beautiful shorelines, beaches, and reef life. Please be pono. Vote in support and pass Bill 167. Mahalo Nui Loa for your service to our community. Respeqfully, Antu Harvey H51ualoa Comm. No. Ref. To- P Ref. Date—JA-4-- =
