Aloha Council Members,
I support doing whatever we can to protect our fragile nearshore ecosystems. I like the wording of Bill 167, banning
all "nonmineral sunscreens" as it prevents another end-run around bans of specific chemicals, substituting others of
unknown toxicity. Our system of approving chemicals should place the burden of proof on the manufacturer and not
on the public to demonstrate harm. Once we allow the harm there is no way to undo it, so we must practice the
precautionary principle and malama i ke kai.
Please pass Bill 167.
