Aloha County Council Members,
This is a testimony in strong support of Bill 167.
Healthy coral reefs are the foundation of a healthy and thriving planet. As most
coral reefs grow in shallower and warmer waters— exactly where they are to be
exposed to the most chemicals due to human exposure, it would only be wise to
support this bill. The chemical compounds contained in non-mineral sunscreen
inhibit coral growth and degrade the integrity of our reefs. The purpose of this
ordinance is to preserve the health, safety, and welfare of humans and the
environment, by allowing only mineral sunscreens to be provided, sold, offered for
sale, or distributed in the County.
Please support and pass this bill. It is our responsibility as stewards of this very
special place to protect our resources.
