Subject: Protect our coral reefs
Aloha council members,
Again, I'm asking that you do the right thing by supporting Bill 167. This legislation will prohibit known toxins
proven to pollute and kill our reefs. I thank those who voted in support of Bill 167 first time around, and I can't
imagine why would anyone say "NO"to protect one of our state's most precious natural and cultural resources —
unless they had ties to an industry that's already late getting on board with protecting our natural world.
Science shows clearly that non-mineral sunscreens are doing widespread damage to our reefs. I've had skin cancer
and need to protect my skin as much as anyone. I work in the sun, surf and do yard work with reef safe sunscreen as
per my doctor's wholehearted agreement that those sunscreens work as well as reef killing ones. So my own
experience tells me that human beings can protect themselves from damage to their skin and the reefs by using
sunscreens without harmful toxins.
The value of reefs can't always be quantified but can't be overstated. Please set a high standard of stewardship of our
most precious Public Trust resources. Do the right thing: Vote in Support of Bill 167.
Mahalo and best regards,
