Aloha,
Although I am currently not on island, and I am unavailable to testify via zoom on June 15th 20221
am in Strong Support of 6111167. Healthy coral reefs protect our island's coastal infrastructure, beaches
and community. The chemical compounds contained in non-mineral sunscreen inhibit coral growth and
degrade the integrity of our reefs. Having volunteered with Kahaluu Bay Education Center for many years I
personally have witnessed the damage caused by sunscreens to the Kahaluu Bay and other island reefs
over the years. The purpose of this ordinance is to preserve the health, safety, and welfare of humans and
the environment, by allowing only mineral sunscreens to be provided, sold, offered for sale, or distributed in
the County. Please support Bill 167 to keep our island waters safe and clean.
