Aloha,
The statewide ban of sunscreens with oxybenzone and octinoxate was a good step, but insufficient. Sunscreens with many other
coral-toxic chemicals are still in use, harming our aquatic ecological communities whether sloughed directly into the ocean, or
showered off at home for a longer but still inevitable journey to the ocean.
Banning all non-mineral sunscreen is an easy step to reduce harm, and has no significant drawbacks. I would suggest expanding the
ban to include banning sunscreens with nano particles, since those are also harmful to ocean life. Please support Bill 167 with this
addition.
Mahalo,
