Subject: Bill 167
Aloha Council,
My testimony is about Bill 167 and is directed to Chair Maile David and Co-Chair Aaron Chung and members of
the County Council Matt K., Ashley K., Holeka I., Rebecca V., Tim R., &. Sue L.
I love snorkeling and watching our aquatic ecosystem. I feel so privilege to have these coral reefs in my back
yard. We need to protect this fragile ecosystem for now and in the future.
Bill 167 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 14 OF THE HAWAI'I COUNTY CODE 1983 (2016 EDITION, AS
AMENDED), BY ADDING A NEW ARTICLE RELATING TO PROHIBITION OF NON-MINERAL SUNSCREEN
I am in Strong Support of Bill 167. Healthy coral reefs protect our island's coastal infrastructure, beaches, and
community. The chemical compounds contained in non-mineral sunscreen inhibit coral growth and degrade the
integrity of our reefs. The purpose of this ordinance is to preserve the health, safety, and welfare of humans and
the environment, by allowing only mineral sunscreens to be provided, sold, offered for sale, or distributed in the
County. We can protect both human and coral health with this Bill 167.
Mahalo for your consideration
