Subject: Written Testimony for Complete Streets
To Whom It May Concern,
Aloha, my name is Abigail Carbon and I am requesting that we update Waianuenue Ave to include bike lanes. As an
EIS Healthcare worker, I have seen direct negative impact of having both cars and cyclists use the same lane in Hilo.
Lives have been lost and/or financial ruin has occurred due to our unsafe shared road space. Unfortunately, the county
has already seen a rise in automobile fatalities this year compared to the previous.
Also, with the uptick in fossil fuel prices, more and more of our community's commuters will have to seek more
affordable transportation. There will be an increase in cyclists on the roads. I intend to be one of them, but we need to
have safer commute paths. Hilo's future is in your hands. The people have already spoken in 2011. in regards to this
topic. Let's make the future for our keiki and ohana safer and let's follow the law already in place.
