"Tire"Richards,III, Council Member) <br /> Council District 9 <br /> SUBJECT: Attendance at the Grassroots Institute of Hawaii meeting on June 17, 2022 <br /> In accordance with Hawaii Revised Statutes 92-2.5(e), I am reporting the attendance of myself, <br /> Council Members Ashley Kierkiewicz and Susan Lee Loy at the "How to make Housing <br /> Affordable in Hawaii"presentation held on Oahu and hosted by Grassroots Institute of Hawaii <br /> on June 17, 2022. <br /> Some items addressed were as follows: <br /> • Extreme lack of affordable housing in the State of Hawaii. <br /> • Comparison of 1970's housing availability and why it has changed. <br /> • County and state regulations potentially hindering the availability of affordable housing <br /> statewide. <br /> • Potential solutions to the critical housing concern identified. <br /> • Importance of collaboration to seek and implement positive change, including the review <br /> of successful opportunities in other municipalities and states. <br /> Hawaii Revised Statutes §92-2.5(e) states that two or more members of a board, but less than <br /> quorum, may attend an informational meeting or presentation on matters relating to official <br /> board business, including a meeting of another entity, legislative hearing, convention, seminar, <br /> or community meeting; provided that the meeting or presentation is not specifically and <br /> exclusively organized for or directed towards members of the board. The section further <br /> provides that at the next duly noticed meeting of the board, the board members shall report their <br /> attendance and the matters presented and discussed. <br /> Please place this communication on the next available meeting of the Council. <br /> Thank you. <br /> TRldbk <br /> Comm.
