H. Greenwell Ethnobotanical Garden, For their Stewardship Grant Request to PONC Recommend approval of Resolution No. 449-22 Introduced by Maile David j To the Members of the County Council Committee on Finance, I am pleased to write a supporting letter for the Friends of Amy B. H. Greenwell Ethnobotanical Garden (the Garden) for the County of Hawaii POMC Stewardship Fund, for efforts to restore and maintain this important asset for all of Hawaii. We share the goals of the Garden and the Friends in strengthening our local Kona community, cultural traditions, and plant resources for everyone. There is a tremendous amount of volunteer work coming to this project through the Friends, the B. P. Bishop Museum, the University of Hawaii consult, and especially the community. The proposed activities are all important to bringing the Garden back to life. This project will restore the historic original home of Amy B. H. Greenwell to create new space for children's education, visiting students and scientists, education, and cultural activities. As a descendant of hers, I know she would be more than proud of all the work being carried out into the future because of her gift. We have supported the Garden since its founding four decades ago and will continue to be a part of the wonderful efforts. I encourage the County of Hawaii to consider supporting this valuable project! Sincerely, Martha E.
