A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO PŌHAKU PELEMAKA
FOR EXPENSES RELATING TO ITS COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT EFFORTS.
WHEREAS, Pōhaku Pelemaka is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit whose mission is to protect, perpetuate, and enhance the intrinsic qualities of the Lower Puna area, Native Hawaiian wellbeing, and
heritage of Hawai‘i Island in partnership with the County and State governments, as well as private and nonprofit sectors; and
WHEREAS, Pōhaku Pelemaka’s educational, charitable, and scientific purpose is to aloha ʻāina Lower Puna communities, residents, and natural resources through culturally grounded programs
and partnerships; and
WHEREAS, community engagement and maintaining consistent communication streams amongst communities, government, and private and public partnerships is a critical component of Pōhaku
Pelemaka’s outreach and success; and
WHEREAS, Pōhaku Pelemaka is requesting funds to purchase office supplies and software, portable sound and speaker systems, and equipment to support ongoing community engagement efforts;
and
WHEREAS, the Department of Research and Development supports efforts to increase knowledge and understanding of other cultures as well as the economic contribution of the visitor industry
to Hawai‘i Island; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai‘i County Code, Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution identifying
the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I that Contingency Relief funds from Council District 4 will be appropriated to the Department of Research & Development to provide
a grant to Pōhaku Pelemaka to assist with expenses relating to its community engagement efforts.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai‘i hereby transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:
