REPORT OF THE <br /> COMMITTEE ON FINANCE <br /> DATE: July 19, 2022 Re: Comm.No. 858/Bill No. 186 <br /> PLACE: Council Chambers <br /> Kailua-Kona, Hawai`i <br /> TIME: 10:03 a.m. <br /> Council Chair and Members <br /> Hawai`i County Council <br /> Hilo,Hawai`i 96720 <br /> Your Committee on Finance,to which was referred Bill No. 186, reports as follows: <br /> Bill No. 186 transmitted by Council Member Maile David via Communication No. 858 dated <br /> June 29, 2022, amends Chapter 19, Article 10, Section 19-89.5 of the Hawai`i County Code 1983 <br /> (2016 edition, as amended), relating to real property tax exemptions for Kuleana Lands. <br /> This bill expands and clarifies eligibility for the Kuleana Land exemption and the verification process <br /> required to maintain Kuleana Land status when property ownership is transferred to a family <br /> member. <br /> Ms. David provided background on the measure. Real Property Tax Administrator Lisa Miura <br /> confirmed Ms. David's statements and elaborated on the measure's intent and impact. <br /> Committee Chair Matt Kaneali`i-Kleinfelder provided comments in support of the measure.
