SMS'®�Ni1y 4w- s COUNTY OF c b. m+ STATE OF HAWAIII ,AF6F BbP� RESOLUTION O. 486 22 A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE BIG ISLAND SOURCE CONSERVATION AND DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL FOR EXPENSES RELATED TO THE 36TH ANNUAL BIG ISLAND PRO-AM SURFING TRIALS. WHEREAS, the Big Island Resource Conservation and Development Council is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to ensure broadened economic opportunities, enriched communities, and better lives for the people of Hawaii Island and to achieve sustainable development while caring for and appreciating the natural environment; and WHEREAS, the Big Island Resource Conservation and Development Council is the fiscal sponsor for the 36th Annual Big Island Pro-Am Surfing Trials being held in August 2022 at Honoli`i Beach Park, weather and waves permitting; and WHEREAS, the Big Island Pro-Am Surfing Trials is a beloved community event that promotes surfing as an important international sport, particularly with Hawaiian cultural origins, and empowers island youth with a platform to showcase their surfing talents; and WHEREAS, the 36th Annual Big Island Pro-Am Surfing Trials will feature the island's best surfers, bodyboarders, and long boarders as they vie for eight coveted entries into Hawai`i's professional qualifier competitions on O`ahu's North Shore; and WHEREAS, the Big Island Resource Conservation and Development Council is requesting funds for supplies, a sound system, refreshments, and other miscellaneous expenses associated with the 36th Annual Big Island Pro-Am Surfing Trials; and WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation supports diversified recreation programs that address the needs and interests of Hawaii Island's communities in a safe environment; and WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawaii County Code, Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that Contingency Relief funds from Council District 4 will be appropriated to the Department of Parks and Recreation to provide a grant to the Big Island Resource Conservation and Development Council to assist with expenses related to the 36th Annual Big Island Pro-Am Surfing Trials.
