RESOLUTION NSF G/APP P IATN AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TANAI ANA
TOCONSTRUCT WIRE FENCING FOR AT KOHANAIKI BEACHPARK.
WHEREAS, the mission of Kohanaiki `Ghana, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is to
remain active in the care and preservation of the cultural and natural resources at Kohanaiki
Beach Park; and
WHEREAS, the goal of Kohanaiki `Ghana is to foster community engagement and
support through the development and implementation of innovative stewardship programs that
are specific to Kohanaiki Beach Park; and
WHEREAS, Kohanaiki Beach Park is managed through a three-way partnership
between the County of Hawaii, the community, and Kohanaiki Shores LLC; and
WHEREAS, Kohanaiki `Ohana is requesting funds to construct protective wire fencing
around the Cultural Education Center's Native Plant Garden at Kohanaiki Beach Park, and
related expenses, to protect a wide variety of native plants that were originally brought here by
the early Polynesians for food, medicine and cordage, that is being damaged daily by wild goats;
and
WHEREAS, the Cultural Education Center falls within the Department of Parks and
Recreation's Culture and Education program to promote,perpetuate, and encourage activities
and programs in culture, art, history, and humanities; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawaii County Code,
Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via
resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event,
activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now,
therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that
Contingency Relief funds from Council District 7 will be appropriated to the Department of
Parks and Recreation to provide a grant to Kohanaiki `Ghana to construct wire fencing around
the Cultural Education Center's Native Plant Garden at Kohanaiki Beach Park.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawaii hereby
transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the Director of Parks and Recreation and Director of Finance, and that the Director
of Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of
this resolution.
