TO CONSTRUCT WIRE FENCING FOR KOHANAIKI BEACH PARK.
WHEREAS, the mission of Kohanaiki ‘Ohana, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is to remain active in the care and preservation of the cultural and natural resources at Kohanaiki Beach
Park; and
WHEREAS, the goal of Kohanaiki ‘Ohana is to foster community engagement and support through the development and implementation of innovative stewardship programs that are specific to
Kohanaiki Beach Park; and
WHEREAS, Kohanaiki Beach Park is managed through a three-way partnership between the County of Hawai‘i, the community, and Kohanaiki Shores LLC; and
WHEREAS, Kohanaiki ‘Ohana is requesting funds to construct protective wire fencing around the Cultural Education Center’s Native Plant Garden at Kohanaiki Beach Park, and related expenses,
to protect a wide variety of native plants that were originally brought here by the early Polynesians for food, medicine and cordage, that is being damaged daily by wild goats; and
WHEREAS, the Cultural Education Center falls within the Department of Parks and Recreation’s Culture and Education program to promote, perpetuate, and encourage activities and programs
in culture, art, history, and humanities; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai‘i County Code, Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution identifying
the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I that Contingency Relief funds from Council District 8 will be appropriated to the Department of Parks and Recreation to provide
a grant to Kohanaiki ‘Ohana to construct wire fencing around the Cultural Education Center’s Native Plant Garden at Kohanaiki Beach Park.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai‘i hereby transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:
