From: Noel Morin Sent: Sunday,July 31, 2022 9:37 PM To: Council Testimony Subject: Please support Bill 120 i Aloha, My name is Noel Morin, a community advocate for sustainability on Hawaii Island. I lead Hawaii EV and Big Island EV. I've been an EV owner and advocate for over a decade. Electric vehicles {EVs}play a critical role in helping us meet our emission goals, reduce overall transportation costs for residents, and allow us to reduce our dependence on the volatility (and toxicity) of fossil fuels. As of June of this year, there were 1488 EVs on our island. The count in June 2021 was 786. As EVs become more affordable and available in different configurations, we'll see even more of them. Many EV owners will depend on public charging to use an EV effectively. Notably, public charging will allow for a more equitable adoption of EVs. Residents who live in apartments and condos and those who rent will depend on adequate public charging infrastructure to maintain an EV. Bill 120 will allow Hawaii Island to support the fast-growing number of EV owners on our island and enable equitable access to clean transportation. It will help increase the inventory of reliable public charging and encourage the proper use of EV parking stalls. Please support Bill 120. `n „ Thank you, Noel Morin CD Comm.
