Aloha
I'm a person who lost my home and eco-tourist community in the 2018 Kilauea eruption.
To support the green EV industry and a sustainable Hawaii, I used part of my FEMA aid to purchase an electric car.
I live off-grid while waiting to return to my land. This means I depend 100% on public chargers.
I support this bill for a number of reasons:
1. Some like the Home Depot charger in Hilo, have been broken for over a year. The chargers at the county
buildings have been broken for months.
2. Many times EV parking spaces are blocked by other vehicles. At the Puna Kai shopping center in
Pahoa, Service vehicles will literally park right in front of the EV chargers (though there are hundreds of other
spaces to park). This does not allow me access to charge my vehicle.
3. And there is only one solar-powered electric charger in East Hawaii.
We need a robust and sustainable charging infrastructure on Big Island and this bill will help to make that a reality.
