I am actively involved promoting sustainability and resilience here on the Big Island. I reside on the West Side but
often drive to Hilo to participate in meetings with the Mayor and others in the county in regards to sustainability
efforts. The last time I drove over in my electric vehicle. I had to make a number of stops along the way for errands
and meetings, arriving in Hilo with less than 50% charge remaining. I felt comfortable knowing that there would be
charging stations in town to help me get back home. First I went to the charging stations at the Mayor's office-both
chargers were out of order. I then went to the Court House and the charger was occupied. then I drove to the
Hawaiian Electric office that offers a rapid charger. It was out of order. The few slow chargers at Target and
Walmart were also occupied. I braved it on the journey back and hoped to recharge in Waimea at the Rapid Charger
behind the KTA-it was also out of order. Then I headed to the charging station at the Fairmont Orchid to find it out of
order as was the charging station at the shops at Mauna Lani. I finally found one charger working at the Kings Shops
in Waikoloa where I was able to charge up enough to get home...ironically this charger that worked failed to ever
charge me for the service. We can do better than this. We have to do better than this. Our future depends on
becoming less and less dependent on outside sources of energy. Please pass this bill and please do everything
possible to support our efforts to develop clean renewable energy from all sources as soon as possible.
