Subject: Please support Bill 120
Dear Chair David and Council Members,
I am an EV owner living in Volcano who knows how important this bill is. I have difficulty traveling to Kona without
charging and difficulty finding charging before my range fails. My go to spot almost exclusively for ease is Target in
Hilo and sometimes the stalls are taken—and not always with EV's. One of the EV spaces is also for handicapped
who often aren't EV's. I must plan for this possibility. I also know someone who lives at one of the condos near
Richardson that has EV owners but no chargers. Something must be done and done soon to accommodate more EV's
to reduce our fossil fuel emissions. I'd also strongly suggest to mitigate the tourist carbon footprint that most rental
cars be EV's. All hotels could have chargers powered by solar. Just imagine the reduction of emissions!
Bill 120 will enforce the state law that calls for EV chargers to be installed in large parking structures, for the stations
to be maintained, and for enforcement of rules related to parking in the designated stalls. When passed, it will increase
the number of reliable charging stations around our island. This will allow for more equitable access to clean
transportation and accelerate our transition to EVs.
Mahalo for the opportunity to testify,
Diane Ware
