We already have $30,000 budgeted. The grant and its mission include seatbelt enforcement to reduce motor vehicle front seat occupant fatalities, as well as reduce injuries and/or fatalities to children by increasing child safety seat use. Also enclosed is a resolution authorizing the Mayor to enter into agreement with the State Department of Transportation for this grant. Use overtime funds to enforce seatbelt and child restraint laws, beyond what the Department would normally enforce. ? Use 850 men hours to solely enforce seatbelt violations. ? Initiate arrest for criminal/traffic violations. EVALUATION: ? Reduce front seat occupant motor vehicle fatals by 5%. Increase seatbelt user rate by 2% from 80.2% to 81.8%. TASKS: ? Utilize a minimum of 850 members on overtime for enforcement. ? Issue 3500 citations for seatbelt violations. ? Issue 500 citations for other violations. ?
