a+t"°F•"•+y COUNTY OF C is t* STATE OF HAWAII ,pf oF.µP.p6 RESOLUTION NO. 508 22 A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE BIG ISLAND RESOURCE CONSERVATION AND DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL FOR A REIMBURSEMENT OF EXPENSES RELATED TO THE 36TH ANNUAL BIG ISLAND PRO-AM SURFING TRIALS. WHEREAS,the Big Island Resource Conservation and Development Council (BIRCDC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that supports the economic, cultural, and natural environment of Hawaii Island through the sponsorship of festivals, programs, and special events unique to this island; and WHEREAS, BIRCDC worked with the Big Island Pro-Am Surfing Trials Committee to promote,produce, and coordinate the 36th Annual Big Island Pro-Am Surfing Trials that was held in August 2022 at Honoli`i Beach Park in Hilo; and WHEREAS, this annual event is a platform for Hawaii Island athletes to enter the professional ranks while perpetuating the tradition of surfing and building self-esteem and good sportsmanship; and WHEREAS, a very crucial part of the Big Island Pro-Am Surfing Trials is the cleaning and maintenance of Honoli`i Beach Park at the end of the event, which is conducted by community volunteers; and WHEREAS, BIRCDC is requesting funds for a reimbursement for sanitizers, trash bags, gloves, and other miscellaneous expenses associated with the cleanup and maintenance of Honoli`i Beach Park at the conclusion of the 36th Annual Big Island Pro-Am Surfing Trials; and WHEREAS,the Department of Parks and Recreation supports diversified recreation programs that address the needs and interests of Hawaii Island's communities in a safe environment; and WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawaii County Code, Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, service, equipment,materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now,therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that Contingency Relief funds from Council District 5 will be appropriated to the Department of Parks and Recreation to provide a grant to the Big Island Resource Conservation and Development Council for a reimbursement of expenses related to the 36th Annual Big Island Pro-Am Surfing Trials.
