HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 511 Draft 01 2020-2022A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO FRIENDS OF THE FUTURE
TO ASSIST WITH EXPENSES RELATED TO THE HEALTH AND FITNESS FIELD DAY EVENTS IN WEST HAWAI‘I.
WHEREAS, Friends of the Future is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to encourage sustained conversations based in mutual respect for diversity and to bring about shared
understanding and consensus within communities; and
WHEREAS, Health and Fitness Field Day events are being hosted at public schools in the West Hawai‘i Complex Area as part of the No Ke Ola Pono O Nā Keiki Project, which was established
by a teacher to respond to the effects of the pandemic on our keiki by enhancing wellness and building the capacity for quality health and physical education within the schools; and
WHEREAS, last year, over 18 Health and Fitness Field Days were held across West Hawai‘i using reproducible lessons in a fun format, which also included community partners running health
and wellness stations to share their services with students and faculty; and
WHEREAS, for this school year, Friends of the Future will be helping to coordinate Health and Fitness Field Days at schools in the West Hawai‘i Complex Area and is requesting funds
to pay for athletic gear, supplies, and other related expenses to conduct these events; and
WHEREAS, one of the goals of the Department of Liquor Control is to support youth programs that promote educational activities in a drug- and alcohol-free environment, such as the Health
and Fitness Field Day events; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai‘i County Code, Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution identifying
the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I that Contingency Relief funds from Council District 8 will be appropriated to the Department of Liquor Control to provide a grant
to Friends of the Future for expenses related to the Health and Fitness Field Day events in West Hawai‘i.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai‘i hereby transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this resolution to the Director of Liquor Control and Director of Finance, and that the Director of Finance is hereby
authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of this resolution.
