Subject: Support for Bill 120 - Public EV Charger
Aloha Council Members,
My wife and I have been driving electric cars for over 10 years and have accumulated over
150,000 pollution free miles here on the Big Island. When we got our first one, the State had
legislation in place mandating chargers in public parking lots over 100 cars. However, this
was not followed and there was no enforcement nor penalties for non-compliance..
Additionally, although there was a mandate for chargers to be in place, there were no
conditions that they work. The charger at WalMart in Hilo was broken for over 5 years.
People like myself do not rely on the public charging stations however there are many people
that do not have the option for charging at home. In order for us to achieve the goals in
place for Hawaii there has to be a much better and working charging network.
Your anticipated support for this legislation is greatly appreciated,
Lorn Douglas
