HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 537 Draft 01 2020-2022 RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE DEPARTMENT OF RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT TO AWARD FUNDS TO HUI HO‘OLAKO FOR HAWAIIAN INITIATIVES WHEREAS, Chapter 2, Article 25, Section 2-139(a)(3)(A) of the Hawai‘i County Code (2005 Edition as amended) states, Grant awards in excess of $25,000 to nonprofit organizations shall specifically identify the organization receiving the grant funds and the purpose for which the grant funds shall be used in an ordinance or resolution; and WHEREAS, Chapter 2, Article 25, Section 2-136(5) of the Hawai‘i County Code states, “nonprofit organization” means an organization organized for other than profit-making purposes and which has a current 501(c)3 tax-exemption from the Internal Revenue Code; and WHEREAS, Hui Ho‘olako For Hawaiian Initiatives, which qualifies as a nonprofit organization as defined above, will harvest gorse from Mauna Kea, renovate the Feed Mill located at the University of Hawai‘i, at Hiloʻs Pana‘ewa Farm and conduct a study of gorse and other feedstock as a livestock feed for palatability and weight gain for the Gorse Pilot Program; and WHEREAS, the Department of Research & Development wishes to provide $500,000 of State derived funds to Hui Ho‘olako For Hawaiian Initiatives; now, therefore BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I that in accordance with Chapter 2, Article 25, Section 2-139(a)(3)(A) of the Hawai‘i County Code, the Department of Research & Development is authorized to provide a grant of $500,000 to Hui Ho‘olako For Hawaiian Initiatives to provide services as indicated above. BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk of the County of Hawai‘i shall transmit copies of this resolution to the Office of the Mayor, the Finance Department, and the Department of Research & Development.
