Your Committee on Finance,to which was referred Resolution No. 522-22,reports as follows:
Resolution No. 522-22,transmitted by Finance Director Deanna S. Sako via Communication No. 959
dated August 17, 2022, authorizes the continued employment of Leong Kunihiro Brooke &Kim as
Special Counsel to represent the County of Hawai`i, Department of Human Resources, Workers'
Compensation Division.
This resolution extends the retention of special counsel services with additional compensation of
$50,000 and total compensation not to exceed $660,000.
Per Committee Member Heather L. Kimball's request, Deputy Corporation Counsel Keyra Wong
provided a background on the measure.
Pursuant to Section 6-5.5, Hawai`i County Charter, the Council may approve the membership of
Special Counsel, for any special matter presenting a real necessity for such employment, and such
authorization shall specify the compensation to be paid for said services.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Resolution No. 522-22, and
recommends its adoption.
