Your Committee on Finance,to which was referred Resolution No. 523-22, reports as follows:
Resolution No. 523-22,transmitted by Finance Director Deanna S. Sako via Communication No. 960
dated August 17, 2022, authorizes the hiring of Leong Kunihiro Brooke & Kim as Special Counsel to
represent the County of Hawai`i, Department of Human Resources Workers' Compensation Division.
This resolution allows the Office of the Corporation Counsel to retain special counsel for legal
services with specific expertise in workers' compensation matters,with funds not to exceed
$300,000.
There was no discussion on the measure.
Pursuant to Section 6-5.5, Hawai`i County Charter,the Council may approve the membership of
Special Counsel, for any special matter presenting a real necessity for such employment, and such
authorization shall specify the compensation to be paid for said services.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Resolution No. 523-22, and
recommends its adoption.
