Subject: Please Support Bill 120
I am in total support of Bill 120. I live on Maui and own an electric car here. In my opinion, the infrastructure for
getting an electric car charged is very poor and getting worse. I get frustrated when I go to shopping centers thinking
that I can get my car charged. However, what I many times find is that the charging station is broken, turned off, or
other wise non-functional. On occasion, I have found a big diesel truck parked in the marked EV only stall. There are
shopping centers that once had charging stations, such as Maui Mall - For some unknown reason the stations were
removed, and not replaced. Only the marked stalls remain! It appears that the law, passed in 2013 by the Hawaii
legislature requiring a charging station for every 100 parking stalls is not being complied with or enforced. I have
apprehension of not going a very long distance with my EV such as upcountry Maui due to this situation.
The one major exception is the Target Shopping center in Kahului. They have Chargepoint charging stations. I
commend them because they are excellent corporate citizens. They give EV owners 2 hours free charge, and always
have maintained their stations. I'm sure their business is significantly increased because of this.
Anything you can do about setting an example (such as passing Bill 120) to get the law enforced, I (and I'm sure
many other EV owners)would greatly appreciate it.
