When passed, Bill 120 will increase the number of reliable charging stations around Hawaii island. This will allow for more equitable access to clean transportation and accelerate our transition to EVs. Transitioning to EVs is critical in our fight against the climate crisis. To do so, there needs to be readily available and reliable public EV chargers. The current lack of reliable public chargers has been a major obstacle to this transition. For many residents who are renters, along with those that live in condos and apartments, installing a home charging station is not an option. They would rely on public charging stations to 'fuel' their cars. Additionally, EV owners with long commutes rely on public chargers to top off. This bill will enable all segments of our community to enjoy the economic, environmental and health benefits of driving EVs, while supporting Hawaii's decarbonization efforts. To achieve Hawaii's sustainable transportation and climate goals, we must decarbonize ground transportation as soon as possible. This bill supports those important efforts.
