Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. 538-22, reports as follows:
Resolution No. 538-22, transmitted by Finance Director Deanna S. Sako via Communication No. 978
dated September 1, 2022, authorizes the acceptance of the donation of a 2016 Toyota 4Runner from the
State of Hawaii Department of the Attorney General to the Hawaii County Office of the Prosecuting
Attorney.
This donation with an estimated value of$28,196 would be used by the Office of the Prosecuting
Attorney for victim and witness transport and travel between Hilo and Kona.
Committee Chair Matt Kaneali`i-Kleinfelder provided comments thanking those involved in the donation,
including Lisa Faulkner-Inouye from the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney. Mr. Kdneali`i-Kleinfelder
also emphasized the maintained value of the Toyota 4Runner.
Pursuant to Section 13-12, Hawaii County Charter, the Council may accept gifts of donations of
money, securities or other personal property or of real estate or any interest in real estate. In addition,
Section 2-162(a), Hawaii County Code, states that any gifts or donations of money, securities, or
personal property which fall within the capitalization procedures of the Department of Finance may be
accepted by resolution approved by the Council.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Resolution No. 538-22, and
recommends its adoption.
