Your Committee on Finance,to which was referred Resolution No. 556-22, reports as follows:
Resolution No. 556-22, transmitted by Council Member Herbert M. "Tim" Richards III via
Communication No. 1004 dated September 16, 2022, awards a Public Access, Open Space, and Natural
Resources Preservation Maintenance Fund stewardship grant to North Kohala Community Resource
Center for public safety maintenance and preservation of Hapu`u in North Kohala.
This resolution approves a grant of$37,690 to North Kohala Community Resource Center, a 501(c)(3)
and restore the Ha u`u
nonprofit organization,to partner with Kohala Lihikai to protect,preserve, p
property(Tax Map Key: 5-3-007:022),pursuant to Section 10-16(h) of the Hawai`i County Charter.
Committee Member Richards gave a brief explanation of this resolution and requested his colleagues'
support for this resolution.
. Committee Chair Matt Kaneali`i-Kleinfelder expressed his appreciation to members of the public for
attending this meeting and for providing testimony.
Pursuant to Section 10-16(h), Hawaii County Charter,provides that the Maintenance Fund maybe
used for a stewardship grant program,which allows 501(c)(3)nonprofit organizations to apply for
grant-in-aid funding for stewardship projects.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Resolution No. 556-22, and
recommends its adoption.
