Your Committee on Finance,to which was referred Resolution No. 557-22, reports as follows:
Resolution No. 557-22,transmitted by Council Member Herbert M. "Tim"Richards III, via
Communication No. 1005 dated September 16, 2022, awards a Public Access, Open Space, and
Natural Resources Preservation Maintenance Fund stewardship grant to North Kohala Community
Resource Center for public safety maintenance and preservation of Kaiholena in North Kohala.
This resolution approves a grant of$64,042 to North Kohala Community Resource Center, a
501(c)(3)nonprofit organization,to partner with Kohala Lihikai to protect,preserve, and restore the
Kaiholena property(Tax Map Keys: 5-8-001:011, 019, 020, 021, 022, 024, and 025),pursuant to
Section 10-16(h) of the Hawai`i County Charter.
Committee Member Richards gave a brief explanation of this resolution and requested his colleagues'
support for this resolution.
Pursuant to Section 10-16(h), Hawai`i County Charter,provides that the Maintenance Fund may be
used for a stewardship grant program, which allows 501(c)(3)nonprofit organizations to apply for
grant-in-aid funding for stewardship projects.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Resolution No. 557-22, and
recommends its adoption.
