A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO MAKUA LANI CHRISTIAN
ACADEMY TO ASSIST WITH EXPENSES FOR ITS AEROSPACE MERIDIAN SPACE CLUB IN KONA.
WHEREAS, the Makua Lani Christian Academy (MLCA) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides education and character building through religion, academics, athletics, and arts
to students from preschool to twelfth grade; and
WHEREAS, MLCA’s AeroSpace Meridian Space Club was one of the winners of the NASA TechRise Student Challenge and a finalist in the NASA HUNCH (high schools united with NASA to create
hardware) program in which they were in fierce competition with students from highly competitive schools across the nation; and
WHEREAS, the AeroSpace Meridian Space Club received praise by NASA engineers that their engineering would potentially be used by NASA to educate and inspire the next generation of scientists
and engineers; and
WHEREAS, MLCA is requesting funds to assist with purchasing equipment, materials, and supplies for its AeroSpace Meridian Space Club in Kona; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Liquor Control supports organizations and programs that promote positive, character building projects in a drug- and alcohol-free environment, such as MLCA’s
AeroSpace Meridian Space Club; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai‘i County Code, Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution identifying
the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I that Contingency Relief funds from Council District 8 will be appropriated to the Department of Liquor Control to provide a grant
to the Makua Lani Christian Academy to assist with expenses for its AeroSpace Meridian Space Club in Kona.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai‘i hereby transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this resolution to the Director of Liquor Control and Director of Finance, and that the Director of Finance is hereby
authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of this resolution.
