A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE NORTH HAWAI‘I
HERITAGE FOUNDATION FOR THE HONOKAʻA RENAISSANCE FAIRE.
WHEREAS, the North Hawai‘i Heritage Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that was established in 2021 to house the relocated Honoka‘a Heritage Center (HHC) and whose mission
is to collect, research, preserve, celebrate, and teach the history and heritage of the people and cultures of North Hawai‘i; and
WHEREAS, HHC is one of several local organizations, including Honokaʻa Union Hall, Keystone Waldorf Homeschool, Friends of the Libraries of Hāmākua, Waimea Community Theatre, Boy Scouts
of America Aloha Council Troop 1, Ka Hale O Na Keiki Preschool, Hāmākua Kohala Health Center, and others that are collaborating with the Honokaʻa Business Association to support the
Honokaʻa Renaissance Faire; and
WHEREAS, the Honoka‘a Renaissance Faire will be a free event for all ages taking place throughout Honoka‘a town on November 12, 2022, featuring wandering minstrels, side quests, shield
maidens, festive food and drinks, archery, jousting, medieval crafts for the keiki, and more; and
WHEREAS, the North Hawai‘i Heritage Foundation is requesting funds to assist with expenses for the Honoka‘a Renaissance Faire that include banners, decorations, porta potty rentals,
postage, printing, sound equipment, and supplies; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation supports developing partnerships with other recreation providers and community organizations to maximize services and activities for the
public, as well as providing educational and leisure activities to share, preserve, perpetuate, and foster the appreciation of our rich multi-cultural heritage in the arts, history,
and humanities; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai‘i County Code, Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution identifying
the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I that Contingency Relief funds from Council District 1 will be appropriated to the Department of
Parks and Recreation to provide a grant to the North Hawai‘i Heritage Foundation to support the Honokaʻa Renaissance Faire.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai‘i hereby transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:
