A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO HO‘OULU LĀHUI FOR
EXPENSES RELATING TO ITS GENKI HOU PROJECT.
WHEREAS, Ho‘oulu Lāhui is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that seeks to perpetuate cultural traditions and practices of the ancient Hawaiians and merges traditional concepts with
current technology to create a sustainable community living in harmony with the environment; and
WHEREAS, Ho‘oulu Lāhui, along with Kua O Ka Lā Charter School, six East Hawai‘i Rotary Clubs, Hiroshima Rotary Club, Eco Kaka‘ako Rotary Club, and Friends of Lili‘uokalani Park, is coordinating
the Genki Hou Project; and
WHEREAS, the Genki Hou Project’s goal is to restore the five acres of traditional fish ponds in the Queen Liliu‘okalani Park by utilizing Effective Microorganisms (EM) technology, known
as Genki Balls, to remove pollutants from soil and water; and
WHEREAS, Ho‘oulu Lāhui is requesting funds to purchase supplies and materials, and defray other costs directly related to its Genki Hou Project; and
WHEREAS, Department of Parks and Recreation provides and facilitates a wide variety of services to meet the needs of the community while maintaining the cultural uniqueness of our rich
heritage, diversity, and the aloha spirit; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai‘i County Code, Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution identifying
the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I that Contingency Relief funds from Council District 6 will be appropriated to the Department of Parks and Recreation to provide
a grant to Ho‘oulu Lāhui for expenses related to its Genki Hou Project.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai‘i hereby transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:
