w Through Che Hawaiian grapevine I heard that the
r Directors position of the Department of Research and
Development for the County of Hawaii will be open. I
was sorry to hear that Diane Quitiquit would be leaving.
f would like to support Margarita L. Hopkins for the
Directors position.
As the Regional Director for USDA, gnimal artd Plant
Wealth Inspection Service, at the American Embassy in
Tokyo, Japan, I got to know Margarita and have worked
with her on a number of occasions. We also brought the
Japan Ministry of Agriculture (NAPE) officials to HAo for 2
bilateral negotiations and had a quadrilateral meeting with
Canada, Australia and New Zealand, and Margarita helped
to coordinate our field trips and other activities.
Everyone in the group especially the officials from our
headquarters was very impressed with her. They
commented how well organized and efficient she was.
I remembered how we had to change our plans in the
middle of our first day of meetings and I spent hours on
the phone discussing the arrangements with Margarita. It
didn't bother her at all. She was so calm and quite
accomodating. She made some suggestions and did
whatever the visitors wanted to do. Of course, that
contributed to an excellent overall visits and meetings on
the Big Island for these foreign dignitaries.
Margarita is knowledgeable, hardworking, very
personable and the kind of model employee for the
County or any other position. I know that she will bring
her enthusiasm and energetic style to the Director's ~ OOS
office, In my many dealings with various offices in the Comm. No. 35
