1 The Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce supports the appointment of Margarita
Hopkins as Director of the Department of Research and Development, Margarita i
has helped the chamber and chamber members on numerous occasions with
information which could increase businesses and create liaisons to improve the
Big Island of Hawaii's economic development. 'We arc especially appreciaGvc of
Ms. Hopkins role in the creation of the Agricultural Development Plan for Ilawaii
County and her contributions to the iiawaii County General Plan as well as her
very important contributions to the statewide AG 2000 Conference.
' Ms. Hopkins was a leader in the creation of new venues in global commerce for
agriculture as well as expanded treatment methods. She helped with the Papaya
Ringspot Virus Quarantine Protect in Puna and the advancement of various
protocols of treatment to improve the export of Hawaii Island products. She is an
ardent champion for investment in the community on the Big Island of Hawaii
