SOLUTION NO. 23
RESOLUTION AUTHII THE DEPARTMENT
AND DEVELOPMENT TO AWARD FUNDS TO LATOPUA 2020
WHEREAS, Chapter 2, Article 25, Section 2-139(a)(3)(A) of the Hawaii
County Code (2016 Edition as amended) states, Grant awards in excess of$25,000
to nonprofit organizations shall specifically identify the organization receiving the
grant funds and the purpose for which the grant funds shall be used in an ordinance
or resolution; and
WHEREAS, Chapter 2, Article 25, Section 2-136(5) of the Hawaii County
Code states, "nonprofit organization" means an organization organized for other than
profit-making purposes and which has a current 501(c)3 tax-exemption from the
Internal Revenue Code; and
WHEREAS, La`6pua 2020, which qualifies as a nonprofit organization as
defined above, will teach food preservation techniques, encourage the community to
buy local produce, and support a food program for qualified students in West Hawaii;
and
WHEREAS, the Department of Research & Development wishes to provide
$100,000 to La`6pua 2020; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that in
accordance with Chapter 2, Article 25, Section 2-139(a)(3)(A) of the Hawaii County
Code, the Department of Research & Development is authorized to provide a grant of
$100,000 to La`6pua 2020 to provide services as indicated above.
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk of the County of Hawaii
shall transmit copies of this resolution to the Office of the Mayor, the Finance
Department, and the Department of Research & Development.
