HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 025 Draft 01 2022-2024 RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE DEPARTMENT OF RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT TO AWARD FUNDS TO HUI MĀLAMA I KE ALA ‘ŪLILI WHEREAS, Chapter 2, Article 25, Section 2-139(a)(3)(A) of the Hawai‘i County Code (2016 Edition as amended) states, Grant awards in excess of $25,000 to nonprofit organizations shall specifically identify the organization receiving the grant funds and the purpose for which the grant funds shall be used in an ordinance or resolution; and WHEREAS, Chapter 2, Article 25, Section 2-136(5) of the Hawai‘i County Code states, “nonprofit organization” means an organization organized for other than profit-making purposes and which has a current 501(c)3 tax-exemption from the Internal Revenue Code; and WHEREAS, Hui Mālama i ke Ala ‘Ūlili, which qualifies as a nonprofit organization as defined above, will establish a community resilience hub in Pa‘auilo to address the current and future needs for food systems, a sustainable economy and community care; and WHEREAS, the Department of Research & Development wishes to provide $100,000 to Hui Mālama i ke Ala ‘Ūlili; now, therefore BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I that in accordance with Chapter 2, Article 25, Section 2-139(a)(3)(A) of the Hawai‘i County Code, the Department of Research & Development is authorized to provide a grant of $100,000 to Hui Mālama i ke Ala ‘Ūlili to provide services as indicated above. BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk of the County of Hawai‘i shall transmit copies of this resolution to the Office of the Mayor, the Finance Department, and the Department of Research & Development.
