RESOLUTION NO. 416
WHEREAS, the President of the United States has
originated a sister city program to foster friendship and
understanding on the municipal level to augment our national
foreign policy, through development of mutual trust and
understanding among all of the peoples of the world; and
WHEREAS, such a sister city program would benefit the
people of the affiliated cities through the exchange of
cultural exhibits, educational programs and other matters of
common interest; and
WHEREAS , the affiliation of the County of Hawaii with
the Island of Oshima, Japan, as sister cities , was recommended
by the Sister City Selection Committee , a committee duly
appointed by the Chairman and Members of the Board of
Supervisors of the County of Hawaii ; and
WHEREAS , the County of Hawaii would be pleased and honored
to be affiliated with the Island of Oshima as a sister city;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
in and for the County of Hawaii that the County of Hawaii
hereby extends an invitation to the Island of Oshima , Japan,
to enter into a sister city program with the County of Hawaii .
