Re: Operating Budget
The State of Hawaii Department of the Attorney General is providing $75,000 of federally
derived funds to the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney for their Firearms Prohibited
Project.
Enclosed is a.resolution authorizing the Mayor to enter into an agreement with the State
of Hawai`i Department of the Attorney General for these funds. Also enclosed is a bill
for an ordinance amending the Operating Budget by appropriating this $75,000 to the
Office of the Prosecuting Attorney's "NICS Act Record Imp Pgm - Prosec" account.

A. REQUEST:
Requesting a resolution and a bill for an Ordinance to accept new grant funds in the amount of$75,000 for
purpose of multi-agency law enforcement Firearms Prohibited Project let by the Office of the Prosecuting
Attorney.
B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED):
The State of Hawai'i Department of the Attorney General has provided advanced notification of federal funds
award in the amount of$75,000 to the Prosecutor's Office for its Firearms Prohibited Project. This new
appropriation will be for FY22-23, and funds will continue through FY23-24, as contract period will be
01/01/23 to 12/31/24). This project is designed to address the follow-up on persons who are ordered by the
court to surrender firearms following initial appearance or the filing of criminal matters and therefore are
prohibited from owning and/or possessing firearms and/or ammunition. Awarded funds will be used to cover
overtime expenses incurred by Prosecutor's Office Investigators, clerical staff, Hawai'i Police Department
officers, and/or State law enforcement officers (i.e. Attorney General Investigators, Sheriffs Department,
DLNR) that are needed to complete this project.
