Re: Bill No. 178
Annlicant: Kaupulehu Makai Venture
Dear Council Members:
On behalf of the Hawaii Island Chamber of Commerce, this is to offer our support for the
project district application which would facilitate the continued development of Kaupulehu
Makai Venture's resort and residential community at Kaupulehu, North Kona, Hawaii.
This development, named "Hualalai at Historic Ka'upulehu," but more commonly
referred to as "Hualalai Resort," has contributed significantly to our County's reputation for high
quality resorts. We see this second phase as a natural extension of the existing Hualalai Resort.
This phase will complement the initial phase of development, complete the vision and already
approved development plan for Hualalai Resort, and further strengthen Kaupulehu as a resort
area. This will in turn further the objectives of the County of Hawaii's General Plan and the
State's West Hawaii Plan.
Most importantly, we strongly urge your approval of this project as another step which
would stimulate our gradual economic recovery. Your approval will signal that affirmative steps
are being taken by government and the private sector to improve our economy and to provide
employment opportunities for our residents, as has been seen in the initial phase of development
at Hualalai Resort.
Thank you for this opportunity to provide this testimony.
Sincerely,
HAWAII ISLAND CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
