Your Committee on Legislative Approvals and Acquisitions, to which was referred Resolution No. 23-23,
reports as follows:
Resolution No. 23-23, transmitted by Council Member Heather L. Kimball, via Communication No. 24
dated November 18, 2022, awards a Public Access, Open Space, and Natural Resources Preservation
Maintenance Fund Stewardship Grant to P6haha I Ka Lani.
This resolution would approve a grant of$39,710 to P6haha I Ka Lani, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit
organization, to protect, preserve, and restore the Waipi`o Valley Lookout property in Hamakua, (Tax
Map Key 4-8-004-006), pursuant to Section 10-16(h) of the Hawaii County Charter.
Department of Finance Property Management Technician Maxine Cutler was available to answer
questions and spoke highly in favor of this stewardship grant to the nonprofit. Jesse Potter, president of
the P6h5ha I Ka Lani was available to answer questions via Zoom.
Several Council Members spoke in favor of this stewardship grant.
Pursuant to Sections 10-16(g) and(h) of the Hawaii County Charter, maintenance fund stewardship
grants may be awarded by resolution for the public safety maintenance and preservation of properties
acquired through the Public Access, Open Space, and Natural Resources Preservation Fund.
Your Committee on Legislative Approvals and Acquisitions is in accord with the purpose and intent of
Resolution No. 23-23, and recommends its adoption.
