Opponents may argue that the proposed change language is unnecessary as it only adds a layer of unneeded criteria and that the current process is working. I say NAUGHT as evidenced by the long historical practices of Planning Director decisions that are made unilaterally atonly his discretion. In a perfect world this would be acceptable but our world is far from perfect. Developers, special interests, lobbies, etc., as history shows, have profound influence onelected decision makers. Ok, so even if the current director is above the fray and not influenced, what is the harm in practicing good business practices having sound checks and balances. Truly, this offers improved protection toeveryone via sound vetting nf possible impacts to a large population, supports the transparency of good and proper governance, and further serves to help restore public trust. \ Comm Nu Ref. TP Ref. Dat In the interest of the community at-large and saving the director from unneeded negative perceptions, the changes expressed in Bill 194 are in everyone's best interest. I ask your positive vote to recommend passage to full council. Mahalo, Steve Lopez Kailua Kona 2
