Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Bill No. 13, reports as follows:
Bill 13, transmitted by Finance Director Deanna S. Sako, via Communication No. 56 dated
January 5, 2023, amends Ordinance No. 22-63, as amended, the Operating Budget for the County
of Hawaii for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2023.
This bill increases revenues in the Fund Balance from Previous Year—account($300,500); and
appropriates the same to the Geothermal Fire Equipment account. Funds would be used to purchase
essential fire equipment to be utilized in Pahoa and other sectors within the lower Puna area.
Committee Member Ashley L. Kierkiewicz provided a brief overview of this bill.
Committee Member Michelle Galimba asked how the Geothermal Fire Equipment account is funded,
to which Finance Director Deanna Sako explained that the Geothermal Community Benefit Fund is
funded through royalties received from Puna Geothermal.
Your Committee On Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Bill No. 13, and recommends
its passage on first reading.
