It is my pleasure to submit the nomination of Gerald K. Yamada of Hilo (CD-3) to
the Hawaii County Board of Appeals to replace Janet H. Fujioka of Hilo (CD-3),
whose term will expire on December 31, 1999.
Mr. Yamada is a 35-year resident of Hawaii and since 1987 has been the
president of both the AW Construction and the Yamada Painting Contracting, Inc.
He is active in the Hawaii Island Contractor's Association, chairing several
committees. He states that he has no political party affiliation.
If approved, Mr. Yamada will serve a term to end on December 31, 2004. Should
the Council have any questions regarding this nomination, you may call me at
your convenience.

RE: Nomination of Gerald K. Yamada to the Hawaii County Board of Appeals
Pursuant to Section 1(e) of Rule 4 of the rules of Procedure of the Council of the County
of Hawaii, this written approval is submitted in regards to Communication No. 573,
regarding the nomination of Gerald K. Yamada to the Hawaii County Board of Appeals,
waiving said referral from the Committee of Planning in order that appropriate action can
be taken by the Council.
In reviewing the contents of the referral, it is deemed advisable that such waiver be
granted.
