Subject: Better Animal Services Desperately Needed
It breaks my heart what this island has become. EVERY day on my way to work, the road is littered with the dead bodies
of cats, dogs, and pigs. The island community is doing so much to try to get animals spayed and neutered, rehome tame
animals, and control feral colonies but it is impossible work to gain a foothold on with essentially zero support from the
county.
There are no longer any free spay neuter clinics and even the vets that charge$400-$500 for the procedure are booked
months in advance! Only a few dozen people on the island are taking on the burden of tens of thousands of animals with
no county help.
And the practices of the minimal county animal services are barbaric- reminiscent of the "pounds"that existed a
hundred years ago. Clearly, this system is not working, as the feral animal populations on the island are exploding.
Please, bring this island back out of the horrific third-world conditions for animals that it has fallen into since Mitch Roth
became mayor.This island NEEDS:
Free Spay/Neuter services
Humane animal control (not just catch and kill!)
Available intake shelters
Services to clean up animal remains from the roads n
Thank you,
Rachel
