SUPPORT BILL 194, Hawai'i County Council Agenda for 2/7/2023
I am writing to provide written comments/testimony in support of Hawaii County Council Bill t94,
scheduled for hearing on 2/7/2023.
Given general concerns at all levels of government, Le, not just Hawai'i or Hawaii County, related to sweetheart deals
made between big money parties such as developers and elected or appointed officials passage of Bills like 194 seems
both wise and prudent. Bill 194 adds more light and transparency to issues of great importance to our communities and
provided the extra checks and balances to potentially avoid actual or perceived conflicts of interests between
governmental officials and those that solicit and lobby via financial or influence channels.
Bill 194 appears to give notice and hearing on issues, public access/opportunity for direct and transparent comment,
pono decision making in service to caretaking kuleana of our people, lands, and communities. It seems to invite and
perpetuate openness within a professional forum and hold parties accountable for stated commitments within the
bounds of County process, rules, and obligations.
Responsible and appropriate development for our island home is deserving of such measures of accountability and
caretaking. Definitely supporting Bill 194
