Dear Chairman Arakaki and Council Members:
It is my pleasure to submit the nomination of Earl K. Fujikawa of Kona, Council
District 7, to the Hawaii County Planning Commission, to replace Linda L. McIntosh of
Kona, Council District 7, whose term will expire on December 31, 1999.
Mr. Fujikawa is a 15-year resident of Hawaii, and since 1993 has been self-employed as
a building consultant. Prior to that, he was employed by the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel
(1989-1993).
He is currently a member of the Kailua Village Design Commission (KVDC), and the
Kailua Village Subdivision Association. His membership to the KVDC will be
vacated(resignation) contingent upon the approval of his nomination. He states he is a
member of the Republican Party.
If approved, Mr. Fujikawa will serve a term to end on December 31, 2004. Should you

RE: Nomination of Earl K. Fujikawa to the Hawaii County Planning Commission
Pursuant to Section 1(e) of Rule 4 of the rules of Procedure of the Council of the County
of Hawaii, this written approval is submitted in regards to Communication No. 575
regarding the nomination of Earl K. Fujikawa to the Hawaii County Planning
Commission, waiving said referral from the Committee of Planning in order that
appropriate action can be taken by the Council.
In reviewing the contents of the referral, it is deemed advisable that such waiver be
granted.
