A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO PŪLAMA ĪA KONA HERITAGE
PRESERVATION COUNCIL TO ASSIST WITH EXPENSES FOR ITS 1925 MONUMENT PROJECT.
WHEREAS, Pūlama Īa Kona Heritage Preservation Council is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to preserve, protect, and enhance the special qualities of historic Kona;
and
WHEREAS, the monument located at the entrance of Kona Koyasan Daishiji Mission in Hōlualoa, which was built in 1924 and dedicated in 1925, is the last remaining structure of over 30
small temples and Shinto shrines that existed along Mamalahoa Highway from South to North Kona before they were destroyed by the U.S. Military pursuant to Executive Order 9066, as issued
by President Franklin D. Roosevelt on February 19, 1942; and
WHEREAS, Pūlama Īa Kona Heritage Preservation Council is requesting funds to assist with expenses for its 1925 Monument Restoration Project; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Liquor Control supports organizations and programs that promote positive, character-building projects in a drug and alcohol-free environment, such as Pūlama
Īa Kona Heritage Preservation Council’s 1925 Monument Restoration Project; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai‘i County Code, Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution identifying
the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I that Contingency Relief funds from Council District 7 will be appropriated to the Department of Liquor Control to provide a grant
to Pūlama Īa Kona Heritage Preservation Council to assist with expenses for its 1925 Monument Restoration Project.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai‘i hereby transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:

authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of this resolution.
