Subject: Resolution 57-23 support of birth attendants
Aloha Hawaii county council
Im writing in support of Resolution 57-23, birth attendants and midwives.
Birth attendants have been an intricate part of the societal maternal health care system for ions. Not to support their craft
and skill will be detrimental to the health of our birthing community. Hawai'i has such vast geographical communities and
health needs that not having teams of birth keepers locally is hard to imagine. Many of these women have spent long ours
learning and growing to gain invaluable knowledge that supersedes any mainland partly online education based system that's
not even available to women here.A licensed midwife has all the same tools as a any other traditional birth attendant but
what they don't have is the esoteric knowledge that was handed to a traditional practitioner. Many of you worked hard to get
to be on the council through your years of hard work and dedication, you earned the right to sit at that seat. There is no
council member school, yet you sit in a position to make crucial decisions for our community. It very much a similar process.
We have been in servitude to health of our community and disclose all of our personal work history, something other
practitioners and doctors don't do.We are very much educated and have accountability. All birth attendants are a much
needed and safe option for our growing population.
Please support Resolution 57-23
